Spending the time to provide detailed feedback in a new outsourcing relationship pays off in the long run and showing is through adjustments and paintovers is one of the most effective ways to illustrate the desired outcome moving forward.
This was feedback given to one of our outsourcers. One of the goals with our costumes was to make sure they all looked worn and cheap. I spent about 30 minutes reworking part of the texture to illustrate the change requests: exaggerate the worn leather (pleather) detail, higher contrast abrasions and don't do the old-school black outlining cavity map.
Sometimes a paintover is the best way to communicate changes to achieve the desired results.
